The victim was identified as 21-year-old Alex Fernandez, according to Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill S. Mayer and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.
Police officers responded to the 1700 block of South 7th Street for a ShotSpotter activation shortly before 2 a.m. on Thursday. They found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after, Mayer and Rodriguez said.
No arrests had been made. Detectives are actively investigating what led to the shooting, they said.
